1. We Gather Information
The first thing we will do is ask you a number of questions to collect important information about your suspected mold problem. These questions will include:
What do you feel is going on in your home?
How long have you experienced these issues or noticed these signs of mold?
Have you recently experienced weather-related, water, or moisture issues in your home or business?
Have there been any plumbing leaks or HVAC leaks that you are aware of?
Do you run a dehumidifier in your basement or crawl space?
The answers to these and other questions will help us better understand what may have caused the microbial growth, the type of mold you might be dealing with, as well as where it is most likely coming from.
2. On-Site Investigation
We schedule a time to come to your property and perform an assessment. When our mold inspector arrives, he will introduce himself and request to be taken to any ‘problem areas’. During this time your inspector will ask questions so he can gather as much information about the history of the building so he can utilize and any insight you’re able to provide. If our mold specialists detect any presence of mold, he will not disturb the area as this can cause the mold spores to be sent into the air.
Not only will we inspect any suspicious areas that you have pointed out, but we will inspect the entire home including the basement, your attic and any other areas where moisture can find its way into the house.
Our technicians also use moisture meters and thermal imaging to reveal moisture where it could be causing your mold problem. Digital video or photos are often used to help with the assessment.
3. Samples Taken
The next step is to collect air and physical testing samples so we can determine the amount and the toxicity of mold present. This allows for the proper protocols to be used when it’s time to remove the mold.
We are focused on determining the type of mold, its toxicity and location, in addition to how much mold you are dealing with. We do this by taking air samples not only in the areas where we find signs of mold, but also from other areas of the home or property. This will help us detect any cross-contamination and determine the levels of mold in the air so that we can bring your home back to a safe and healthy living environment.
We use a Zefon Bio Pump along with an Air-O-Cell Sampling Cassette to sample the amount and species of mold in the air of your home or office.
We also conduct swab sampling to capture surface samples from areas where mold is suspected. This allows us to determine the type, toxicity, and quantity of mold on a surface.
This whole process generally takes an hour or so; however, it could take longer depending on the size of the area we are inspecting, what we discover, and the number of questions you have throughout the process. We love questions, as the answers will help you better understand how and why your mold removal problem exists, and how to prevent it from coming back in the future. .
4. Analysis Completed
For the most accurate and unbiased results, we send our samples to an accredited third-party laboratory, an American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Accredited Laboratory for evaluation.
We will have test results back in just a few days (or if necessary, we can expedite the lab testing so we have your results the very next day (24-hours)! We understand this is an urgent matter and want to have your report to you as quickly as possible, so we can begin the mold remediation process without any delay.
After receiving your lab report we sit down and evaluate them, along with the notes and pictures taken during your mold inspection visit, and we create your complete remediation plan and report.
The report includes clear, easy-to-understand results of the testing as well as each and every recommended step that we will follow to eliminate your mold remediation problem in its entirety!
